SSENSE
Where luxury meets contemporary culture.

History

Rami, Bassel and Firas Atallah founded SSENSE in Montreal in 2003, initially operating as a physical boutique before becoming one of the early adopters of e-commerce in luxury fashion. The company is still privately owned and operated by the Atallah family — an independence that gives SSENSE its distinctive voice and curatorial freedom, unconstrained by the commercial imperatives of larger retail groups.

The Curation

SSENSE occupies a unique position in luxury retail: it bridges the world of established luxury houses (Bottega Veneta, Valentino, Brunello Cucinelli, Prada) with streetwear, contemporary and avant-garde designers (Off-White, Acne Studios, Martine Rose, Simone Rocha). This hybrid curation — luxury and culture in dialogue — reflects the way a new generation actually dresses and thinks about fashion. SSENSE is read as much as a cultural platform as a retailer.

Editorial & Culture

SSENSE Magazine is one of the most respected fashion publications online — commissioning artists, photographers and writers whose work has nothing to do with the products on the site. This editorial investment creates a cultural authority that pure retail cannot buy. SSENSE has interviewed artists, musicians and thinkers; published essays on fashion theory; and commissioned visual projects that engage seriously with art and ideas. This content positions SSENSE as a cultural institution, not just a shop.

The Montreal Flagship

In 2017, SSENSE opened a 13,000 square-foot flagship in Old Montreal — a converted heritage building designed by Toronto architect Ryuichi Ashizawa. The store is as much gallery as retail — a considered physical counterpart to the digital platform. It hosts art exhibitions, pop-up events and installations that reflect the brand's cultural ambitions. The building has become an architectural landmark in Montreal.

Shopping

SSENSE ships worldwide and is particularly strong for exclusive capsule drops, limited-edition collaborations and pieces that sell out elsewhere. The site is updated multiple times daily. Customer service is direct and efficient. SSENSE is a primary destination for the fashion-conscious customer who navigates between luxury and contemporary culture with equal fluency.
