History
Herbert Marcus, his sister Carrie Marcus Neiman, and her husband A.L. Neiman founded Neiman Marcus in Dallas, Texas, on 10 September 1907. The founders rejected an offer to exchange their small retail business for the franchise rights to Coca-Cola — a decision that has since been called one of the most expensive mistakes in business history. Instead, they built what would become the defining luxury retailer of America, serving the newly wealthy oil families of Texas and growing into a national institution. The Christmas Book, an annual gift catalogue published since 1926, became a cultural event in its own right.
The Store
Neiman Marcus operates approximately 35 full-line luxury stores across the United States, concentrated in affluent urban markets including New York, Beverly Hills, Chicago, San Francisco and Miami. Each store is curated for its local market while maintaining the house standard of personal service and luxury brand depth. The InCircle loyalty programme — one of the most exclusive in American retail — rewards the store's best clients with extraordinary benefits and access.
